Social Engagement: German Group

Hello,

I am a student of University of Malaya, currently taking Social Engagement for caring toward homeless. On 22th of February 2017, if was my very first time to go for our distribution of food by joining as volunteers with French group to Street Feeders of KL. This is my first time approaching to those homeless.  First thought of them was quite negative, view like why they do not work or being unemployed. BUT when I really approach them I know how and why they become homeless, They are not that lazy and don't want to get a job, because they are mostly from other state, and here in Kuala Lumpur, a city with higher level of life-style, that they cannot afford to find an accommodation. They are hard to find a own place, they will compete a rest place for themselves and sometime the caused of bad weather, like raining and storm, they will also need to fight for shelter. Some of them actually have a part-time job to cover they daily expense. For example of a Homeless from Masjid Negara, he stated that they only earn less than RM400 monthly, that actually not enough for him.

We are not going alone, but with a NGO, Streetfeeder KL. they teach us how to approach them and how to start a conversation with them (like avoid asking sensitive question, that will insult or hurt their feeling). We also distribute foods and water for them. Having conversation with them and encourage them to stand up again.

We are human beings, why there are wide differences between us? We should be appreciate what we have now, because many others may not have what they should have. Some of us will have the capability to require more then we will never be not content, in the other hand, the Homeless they are content, with just having an own place and a job. Same like the devil circle.

Through this social engagement course, I realized not only the bond from people to people required communication. That we really need is the communication skill. This not only applied for us to homeless, but also all the group members. Cause of less communicativeness between us then we will argue, and misunderstand each others. We are doing project as a team, so we should teamwork, and during the walk to our target. Please stick together!!
