3 Mei 2017, kami telah melibatkan diri dalam Street Feeders of Kuala Lumpur bagi kali ke-4. Sukarelawan pada hari itu adalah kurang berbanding dengan hari biasa. Setibanya kami di Masjid Negara, kami mendapati golongan gelandangan adalah banyak berbanding dengan sukarelawan di Masjid Negara. Selain itu, kami juga mendapati Masjid Negara telah memasang beberapa Lampu LED dan ini menyebabkan suasana menjadi terang.

Selepas mengagihkan makanan kepada para gelandangan. Kami telah berkomunikasi dengan seorang pak cik. Beliau telah memberitahu kami, sebelum kami datang ke Masjid Negara, terdapat beberapa kumpulan Badan Bukan Kerajaan  juga telah datang dan memberi makanan dan minuman kepada mereka. Mereka berasa gembira dan syurkur kerana mereka dapat merasai kehangatan masyarakat.

Sebelum mengakhiri aktiviti ini, ketua telah menyuruh kami untuk berkumpul di tepi jalan. Beliau telah mengkongsikan pengalaman beliau dan memberitahu kami sebab-sebab kami berjalan kaki untuk mengagihkan makanan dan minuman kepada golongan gelandangan. Tindakan ini dapat memberi peluang kepada kami untuk memandang pemandangan di sepanjang jalan ke Masjid Negara. Di samping itu, Tindakan berjalan ke destinasi juga dapat menunjukkan keikhlasan kami untuk mengambil berat golongan gelandangan.

Saya berasa gembira kerana saya dapat memberi bantuan kepada orang yang memerlukan walaupun keupayaan saya adalah terhad.

4th Street Feeders of KL

It was the fourth times we, German Department went to join the food distribution of Street Feeders of KL. Everything was so familiar to us. As usual, we took bus to the LRT Station and took train to Pasar Seni. Next, heads to the assemble point. We followed the same route which are Route A to Masjid Negara. We walked to Masjid Negara after briefing and collecting the foods in our hand. Miss Syera, our female leader today was not here with us. Left only the male leaders. But it was easy to take care everyone because there are not many firstcomers.

When we reached there, Masjid Negara is extremely bright that day as we heard that the respective department has installed a few new and bright lamp post there few days ago. With clear weather and a new look of Masjid Negara there, all of us are extra motivated. We started to distribute the foods to the homeless there as usual and the numbers of homeless today was quite alot mainly because of the good weather. 

We got to chat with a 'pak cik' and a Chinese Uncle today. Started with light conversations, we chatted about 'how was today?', ' how are you feeling today?' and so on. He seems a little bit shy when a few of us surrounding him and started to chat. So, after around 10 minutes, he said he wants to go to the health services to do a small check up. After that, we also walked away and we saw the Chinese Uncle who we usually talked to. As usual , we asked him how he have been and how was his days. Also, he only get to remember a few of our faces. Haha. 

After 35 minutes, we are asked to gather at aside and we have a small sharing session. The male leader started to share out the reasons why we have to walk such a far distance instead of driving a food truck and just distribute to the homeless. He said that walking to Masjid Negara is very important and meaningful. Without us, the homeless could have not get the foods. And because of us, carrying the foods and waters all the way until we passed the food to the homeless, purely because of that the homeless not only get the foods but also the heart of caring that brings to them. To let them know that, there are still people care of them. So, the journey is very meaningful. I felt warmed when I heard that , that is a compliment to all of us that we really get to help them and we are really doing something worthing our time and sweats.

Different experience in Pertiwi Soup Kitchen

On 26/4/2017, it was my first time joining Pertiwi. Me and another two members, Xiu Jie and Yoke May went to Pertiwi Soup Kitchen around 7.30pm. We drove there as it was our first time so it is more easy for us to look for direction from LRT station to the distribution point and tell the other members after that. It was quick early when we reached there and we are shocked that there are no one there. So we read again their guidelines and instructions, we found that we went to the wrong gather point. So, we drove all the way to the address shown in Facebook which is in Bangsar. Around 20 minutes, we reached Bangsar and we found that there is the food preparation and packing place. And the place we went earlier is the right distribution place, is just we are too early. So since we are there, we started to help out by packing the food into a brown paper bag. The food included buns, packet water and chocolate bar. And it also put into another bag included rice, dishes and sauces. After done packing there, we drove to the distribution point in Medan Tuanku. There are crowded with volunteers from Monash and homeless that are ready to collect the foods.

The distribution point is gated with shelter. When we reached, we started to open up the tables in a line and the food truck at the beginning. The second table is buns collection, third table is chocolate collection, forth table is packet drink and the last table is coffee or syrup serving area. When everything is ready, the homeless started to come in and queue in a line with the children and women at the front and men queue behind the lines. They are so discipline and patient while waiting for their turns. So, my first duty was to serve the homeless coffee. I holded a cup of coffee and served to those elderly who needed it. They are all so grateful that they keep on said thank you to us. I felt so happy as I got to gave a little help. After 15 minutes, Puan Munirah, the person in charge of Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, came to us and ask us to changed another duty. So we went to the forth table to distribute packet drinks. After around 30 minutes, we are done distributing to all the homeless that came today. Without wasting time, we cleaned up the place and keep all the tables back to the truck.

Since we are driving, so we considered to go to the second distribution point at Kota Raya. When we reached there, we started to open all the tables just like at Medan Tuanku in a quick action. The homeless queue in a line and started to collect the foods. This time we distributed buns and chocolate bars. We finished distributing in 30 minutes time too. After that, we greet the organisers there before going off.

This was the first time i felt so sad when distributing food to the homeless because I never see children getting food from us before that in Street Feeders of KL. It was so heartache to see so many poor kids collecting foods with a smiling faces like they does not know what is happening. I do not know what is the story behind the smiles, maybe, in my opinion, they are cheerful and grateful to what they have. Who knows. Hope God blessed them with health and happiness. I always thank that I am lucky enough to grow in a family fills with happiness.

Pengalaman Pertama sebagai Sukarelawan....

              Pada 22hb Februari 2017, saya dan rakan sekelasnya dari Program Bahasa Jerman telah

 melaksanakan Kursus Jalinan Masyarakat kali pertama dengan pelajar dari Program Bahasa Perancis. Kami telah menyertai aktiviti kesukarelawan di bawah Badan Bukan Kerajaan iaitu "Street Feeders of Kuala Lumpur " atau lebih dikenali (SFOKL). Saya dan satu lagi rakan yang bernama Jay telah menaiki kereta Grab dari UM Sentral ke University Station (Lrt) bersama rakan - rakan dari Program Bahasa Perancis ke Pasar Seni Station (Lrt). Rakan -rakan yang lain dari Program Bahasa Jerman telah menaiki dua buah kereta rakannya ke lokasi yang ditetapkan. Setelah tibanya di  Pasar Seni Station (Lrt), kami telah berkumpul disitu dan berjalan ke Clock Tower iaitu tempat berkumpul semua sukarelawan (SFOKL). Pada ketika itu, saya rasa terkejut dan gembira kerana melihat beratusan sukarelawan yang bersedia untuk membantu dalam program ini. Kami menunggu  selama 5-10 minit disitu kerana fasilitatornya belum tiba. Selepas itu, fasilitator datang dan memberi sedikit bimbingan serta berterima kasih kepada semua sukarelawan kerana sudi meluangkan masa dalam program pada malam ini. Kami telah diarahkan untuk berkumpul di checkpoint yang dihendaki pergi. Kami dan rakan- rakan dari Program Bahasa Perancis memilih Checkpoint A iaitu  Laluan ke Pasar Seni dan Dataran Merdeka. Kami telah diberi bekal makanan dan sebotol air mineral untuk diberi nanti. 

          Perjalanan kami mengambil masa sebanyak 20 minit  kerana lokasinya agak jauh . Setelah tibanya, kami diberi sedikit taklimat tentang cara berkomunikasi seperti jika terdapat gelandangan yang tidur, jangan  bangunkan  , jangan bertanya pekerjaan mereka, mengapa kamu disini? dan lain-lain lagi.Kami diberi 45 minit untuk berkomunikasi dengan mereka. Perasaan saya pada masa itu, takut sekali kerana semuanya nampak muka masam. Akhir sekali, dapat jugalah saya memberi bekal makanan dan sebotol air kepada seorang pak cik. Pak cik tesebut nampak dalam lingkungan umur 50-65 tahun. Pengalaman pertama bagi saya, jadi saya tidak tahu cara permulaan berkomunikasi dengan gelandangan. Jadi saya cuma bertanya , apa khabar...pak cik ? makanlah.... pak cik.. dan pak ciknya terus balas dengan muka senyum berkata terima kasih adik. Saya tidak dapat komunikasi lama kerana Pak cik memberitahu hendak pergi ke tandas untuk mencuci tangan. 

                     

          Selepas itu, saya mendekati seorang lagi pak cik ketika itu pak cik itu berkata "adik... pak cik tak suka interview- interview ini semua yea........" dan saya berminta maaf lalu ke kawan saya yang lain berkomunikasi dengan gelandangan . Saya tidak memahami kerana mereka berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Cina dan tibalah waktu untuk balik .Selepas itu, kami bergerak ke Dataran Merdeka dan fasilitator mendapati bahawa gelandangan disitu terlalu kurang. Oleh itu, kami diarahkan hanya sepuluh orng sahaja diperlukan untuk memberi makanan dan yang lain berkumpul di hadapan Dataran. Kami diberi satu ceramah yang pendek berkaitan sukarelawan, bagaimana projek ini dijalankan, bila projek ini mula dibuat, bagaimana mereka mendapat idea untuk menubuhkan badan ini dan lain-lain lagi sementara menunggu sepuluh orang tersebut memberi makanan kepada gelandangan. Akhirnya , semua makanan dan minuman yang dibawa telah pun habis dan kami berkumpul untuk mengambil gambar dan balik ke lokasi asal (Clock Tower ) dan balik ke Kolej Kediaman masing-masing

        Saya berasa gembira kerana kali pertama saya menjadi sukarelawan untuk membntu golongan gelandangan melalui Kursus Jalinan Masyarakat ini. Saya juga berasa gembira apabila melihat sukarelawan yang lain turut hadir pada malam itu kerana sanggup berkorban masa untuk melakukan aktiviti yang berfaedah ini . Kebanyakkan mereka dalam lingkungan umur 20-30 atau boleh dikatakan pelajar yang terlalu ramai . Mereka sudi datang untuk membantu golongan gelandangan ini memang dikatakan tahniah kepada mereka berbanding yang lain diluar sana  membuang masa dengan aktivit yang tidak berfaedah. Selepas melihat gelandangan - gelandangan disitu, saya juga berasa syukur kepada kedua-dua ibu bapa saya kerana saya mempunyai dan mendapati semua keperluan asas dan juga mempelajari pengajaran iaitu " Janganlah kita selalu berkomen atau mencari kesalahan  apa-apa keperluan yang kita dapati daripada ibu bapa mahupun sesiapa sahaja ". Kita haruslah sentiasa bersyukur kepada Tuhan dan kedua-dua ibu bapa .

Food Bank in Imbi - Kechara

At first, we could not get a shift from this organisation. After some communication and arrangement, they got us a shift for 12 of us to go. Right after our class, we go straight to the UM Central. We took bus to University LRT Station and took the lrt to KL Sentral. Then,  we changed to monorail and head towards Bukit Bintang Station. From there, we have to walk around 10 minutes to Kechara Food Centre. We walked through the shopping malls and crossed a few roads to reach our destination. It was quite easy to find the shop. We walked in and they direct us to put our belongings inside the volunteer's cupboard. And for hygiene purpose, everyone of us must washed our hands before hand. Then we put on the hand gloves prepared by them. There was three girls working and doing the packing. 

After we took over, we started to packed the biscuits according to their order. There are many types of biscuits. Some we packed it 5 biscuits inside a plastic bag and some 3,4, and 7 biscuits inside a plastic bag. This was packed according to the size and fillings of the biscuits. 

After the biscuits was packed, it was taken to another side to do the sealing process to ensure that the biscuits in good condition until the day they distribute. There was only one person needed to seal the biscuits as there are only one sealing maschine. So, we started to take turns to seal the biscuits. They praised us that we packed the biscuits quickly and nice until they do not have any biscuits to packed anymore. We got to packed more than 600 packets of biscuits that day. They are so nice that they offered us some waters and chocolate bars. 

As there are lots of biscuits to seal, so without wasting our time, we started to clean up and swip the floor. After that, there was a man coming down from the office and they asked us to help him to carry the boxes of waters to another side. So, we queued in a line and started to pass the boxes one by one. The boxes was extremely heavy. I think around 12kg and we get to move more than 20 boxes of waters to another side of the shop. This is where i learned team work instead of moving the boxes one by one. Here, we just have to passed the boxes without walking so it was still not that hard. hehe

After done sealing all the biscuits, we started to take our belongings. Today was a tiring day but it was so fun. It was my first time packing such amount of biscuits and I got to learn teamworks. When we separate evenly our works, it is much more efficient and quick to finish our works. Although i could not pass the biscuit to the homeless myself, we did not face to face, but it was still meaningful as if we did not pack the biscuits today, the homeless would not get those biscuit in the coming distribution. Instead, this was another kind of help.

3rd Street Feeders of KL

Tonight was a raining night. It was also a special night as our coordinator, Frau Koh is going with us too. Because of the rain, we waited quite a long time for the bus. around 8.05pm, we got to squeezed in a bus to University LRT Station. We took the train to Pasar Seni and walked to the assemble point. Fortunately, we are not too late, we reached there and they just start to brief all the volunteers. I first introduced our route's leader, Miss Syera to Frau Koh. She is a nice, friendly and helpful young lady that always lead us Route A which are from the assemble point to the Masjid Negara.

Finally, we started to walked to Masjid Negara. This time, we got to get quite a number of rice, bananas and waters than the last few times. This was because the number of volunteers today is very less as it was raining. So, we walked to Masjid Negara without hesitating about the weather and condition because our mission is to feed the homeless. Cannot denied that it was stink and sticky walking under the rain. But is was not so bad when you are walking together with your friends. It was definitely a good and memorable experience.

When we reached Masjid Negara, the numbers of homeless there is lesser than usual. Masjid Negara was a open place without shelter or cover. So, most of the homeless was hiding under the shelter and we only can deliver the food to them without a chance to talk to. After giving out the food, we stood aside with umbrellas while waiting for the Muslim to go up to the Mosque and distribute the food to the homeless that have a shelter up there. As that was a holy place for Muslim, Chinese is not allowed to go up. So we waited at the usual place. After the food was all distributed, we does not waste anytime to head back to our assemble point as it was still raining.

After that, we head back to our kk by lrt. The last bus from UM Central to our kk9 are went off too , so we considered to grab back to our kk9.

It was a toughful night despite of the uncertainty of the weather, We are all stinky, wet and feeling uncomfortable. But to me, it was a meaningful food distribution day as no matter how hard the condition is, we still got to help the homeless. Yes, I am stinky, wet and feeling uncomfortable but i got to bath and clean up myself in my dorm. But to the helpless, they could only wait for the rain to stop under a small shelter and maybe some of them have not eaten yet. So it is very important for us to deliver food for them no matter what uncertainty that are because they need our help.

8/3/17(Rabu) - Street Feeder 2

Pada 8/3/2017(Rabu), hari ini merupakan kali kedua saya melibatkan diri sebagai sukarelawan. Kali ini saya berasa lebih selesa memulakan perbualan dengan street friends. Saya telah berkenalan dengan dua orang lelaki berbangsa cina. Lelaki yang kelihatan lebih tua tersebut meminta saya menyimpan telefon bimbit saya di beg untuk keselamatan. Saya berterima kasih terhadapnya. Selepas itu saya mendengar lelaki yang lebih muda itu bercakap. Lelaki itu bercakap sambil memainkan batang yang diperbuat daripada kertas.

Masa lalu dengan cepat dan kita perlu meninggalkan tempat tersebut. Lalu saya mengucapkan selamat tinggal terhadap dua orang lelaki berbangsa cina tersebut dan berjalan ke tapak perhimpunan sukarelawan Street Feeder.

Hari ini saya berasa gembira kerana saya dapat berkenalan dengan street friends.
